Common Sense Fashion Advice For Plus Size Women

For those of us who do not have the reed thin figures of Hollywood starlets and top models, finding the most attractive way to dress our figures oftentimes requires a little more thought and effort. Plus size fashionistas have to work harder than their skinny sisters to appear chic and stylish. There are some steps you can take, though, that will help you look your best. Some have to do with clothing and some don’t, but they all affect your appearance.

Do Practice Good Posture Nothing makes a protruding tummy more obvious than poor posture. Stand tall, suck in your gut and throw your shoulders back. Good posture flatters your figure and makes you look more confident. Your mother always told you to stand up straight for a reason. It’s still good advice.

Don’t Wear Poorly Fitting Undergarments. A bra that is worn out or doesn’t fit right is a bra that is practically useless. You won’t achieve the lift and support you need to look you best and sagging breasts make you appear older and unkempt. If your bra is too tight, it serves to create and accent rolls and bulges. The same goes for panties.

Do Choose Monochromatic Tones Dressing from top to bottom in one color makes you appear longer and leaner. Matching shoes and hose help keep the eye traveling straight up and down. If you want to add color, choose some bright accessories like chunky bracelets or a colorful bag.

Don’t Wear Clothes that are too Big or too Little No, you are not hiding your body underneath those big, baggy clothes. Excessive material makes you look broader, not smaller. Clothing that is too small is even worse. Any garment that clings to your rolls, makes a muffin top of your belly or cuts off circulation to any part of your body should be banished from your wardrobe at once. It not only looks bad, it makes you feel bad.

Do Wear High Heels If you do not have some physical reason why you cannot wear high heels, wear them when it’s appropriate. They make you look taller, your legs longer and more toned. Shoes with high heels add an air of femininity as well. You don’t have to be wearing a suit or dress for heels to look stylish, however. They also look chic with trousers or teamed with well fitted jeans and a blazer.

Don’t Forget Accessories Use accessories to play up your best features and to personalize your look. Do you have a great face? Then draw attention to it with a pair of eye catching earrings. Are your hands pretty? Add a couple of sparkly rings or pretty bracelets. The most simple advice of all is to smile. A warm, genuine smile brings a glow to your eyes and a radiance to your face. People always find a cheerful, smiling countenance more beautiful than one that is frowning, no matter what you’re wearing.
