Diet and Nutrition at 40

For a lot of people, being in their 40s is a big deal. Others are excited about it while others are just plain worried mainly because of some health issues that will come along the way. Your diet plays an important role in your overall health. You can’t have as much ice cream as you want because you know it will go directly to your gut! I don’t mean you have to be in a “Hollywood Diet”. That’s not for normal people like us! Our body needs considerable or sufficient amount of food to survive. Don’t get too scared when you know it’s time for you to start eating healthier. There are plenty of healthier alternatives out there. Choose foods which are high in fat-burning components.

Instead of fuelling your body with soda, take water with lemon instead. Aside from it adds a zesty flavor to your drink, it will help you lose some weight. The reason why you want to get rid of carbonated drinks is because the phosphoric acid in it may contribute to bone loss and osteoporosis by changing the acid balance in your blood. You may want to steer clear from Starbucks too. Once in a while sip of that tall cappuccino or mocha frappe is ok, just don’t make it as your regular drink. Carry a fruit in your bag at all times so that you’ll have something when you’re feeling a little bit hungry. Drink a lot of water to keep you full.

High-fiber granola bars are good for your body as well. A British study shows that women who eat fiber-rich foods during breakfast burn twice as much fat during workouts later in the day compared to those who eat more refined (lower-fiber) foods. Make sure to look for a granola bar with at least 4 grams of fiber. I personally love granola bars. Everytime I’m craving for a bar of Snickers or Cadbury, I grab a granola bar instead. Ground flaxseed is a healthy choice too than the regular flaxseed because our body can digest it better. If you’re not a huge fan of flaxseeds, then stock up on walnuts. These nuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. So the next time you crave for some potato chips, grab some walnuts instead. They also make you full longer.
