Ferrari was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929 as Scuderia Ferrari. The company started with the manufacturing of race cars, before moving to commercial automobiles. From inception, Ferrari has always been associated with Formula One racing.
During the early years, Ferrari was solely into car racing. But during World War II, in 1943, the Ferrari factory moved to Maranello. The factory was bombed in 1944 and rebuilt in 1946. After the war ended, the company made in roads into road car production.
The first Ferrari road car was the 125 S, built in 1947. It was powered by a 1.5 L V12 engine. The sleek looks and the faster engines of the Ferrari cars gained worldwide recognition and the cars were instantly popular. But, Enzo Ferrari’s love for racing ensured that the car was as much a success on the race track as it was on the road.
Through the Scuderia Ferrari division, Ferrari continued to be very active in motorsporting events. Ferrari is the only team that has continuously participated in Formula One Championships since 1950. The team holds nearly every Formula One Championship record, till date.
