We have so many appliances in our homes – refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, dishwashers and microwaves, to name a few! At times, these do not function properly but through just a bit of intelligent poking and prodding as well as reading the owner’s manual that comes with the appliance, we often find that it’s easy to replace part then insert it into the appliance. This, in turn, will save us a good bit of money as opposed to calling in an appliance specialist to diagnose the same thing we found; simply that it needs a new part.
Dishwasher repair, for example, may simply mean that the belt that initiates the drainage cycle may have become damaged or is broken. Also, the drain hose may need to be replaced, the pump assembly may have gone bad or the heating element may no longer be working. Dishwashers also have a plethora of switches, many of which can be easily replaced when they fail. You may need a new seal on the machine, and those are quite easy to find and install too.
Refrigerator parts are sometime quite easy to replace, such as the seal (gasket) that goes around the door, or you may need to purchase a complete icemaker kit. At times, you may need to purchase a condenser fan motor. Another easy to replace refrigerator part is a door closer cam.
Electric stove parts may consist of such things as surface burner elements, range burner caps, oven bake elements, or oven broil elements. Range infinite switches are commonly needed as well as knob adapters and knobs.
Washing machines may need agitator parts, or belts. You may also need to replace the washer control board, the water valve or perhaps the hose. Sometimes you may need to find a replacement part for the drain pump, a washer spring, or a washer timer or a washer motor.
Dryers are sometimes in need of parts such as the dryer electronic control, heating elements, belts, blower wheel, buzzer and of course the dryer lint screen that is so often damaged by kids putting their steel toys in the dryer. Other dryer parts that you may need include knobs and thermostats.
Always remember with any appliance, that the serial/model number of the appliance is important and any information that is found by the door or behind the appliance on a foil plate is also important. Be sure to read the owner’s manual which will have a handy list of diagnostic tools available, and the company itself may have a toll free number for you to call when you need help in diagnosing your particular problem. This customer support makes it wonderfully easy to ascertain which part you need to again have a “happy” and functional appliance. When shopping for parts, you will need to have the appliance type (dryer, washer, range, etc.), the brand name (Maytag, Hot Point, etc.), the model number (from that foil plate) as well as the serial or manufacturer’s number (same foil plate), and the symptoms to be sure you are ordering the correct part.
